How do I make a collect call from Spain to the United States?

So i bought a phone card here in Madrid. On a landline I dial the AT&T number I use to normally make international calls. When it asks for the phonecard number + the PIN I enter it, but then the machine responds by saying my phonecard number isn´t valid. IF you could help me that wold be great. Thanks.

I don’t know which kind of card you got, but there should be the phone number you need to dial, written on the card – under Madrid.
After that you would dial the pin number.
Not sure if this is the problem.

If you want to make a collect call, then you do not need a phonecard from Madrid, since the person you are calling would need to accept the charges. So you would just need to call the operator.

The rate for the minutes you pre-pay for doesn’t change either. (Unlike a postage stamp that you pre-pay for and find that the value is lower when the rates change or worthless when you’re overseas.) Ideal for calling to or from another international city, these international calling cards can be purchased in the United States and make it possible to call foreign countries at the prepaid rates. Having a prepaid rate can save a lot of money as many long distance international rates can be very expensive through a standard long distance carrier plan. So whether you actually get the chance to run with the bulls in Spain, and you want to brag about it to your brother-in-law, or if your best friend is spending a semester abroad, and you want to stay connected or if you need to make any kind of international call, an international phone card is the ideal, convenient method to give you guaranteed minutes at a reasonable rate.

if you’re with other people, just borrow their cell phones. If you must have one, go into a cell phone place in Spain and buy a prepaid phone with a sim card good in Spain. In france, you’ll need a different sim card, which you can buy in France. You might be able to buy the sim cards wherever youare now, idk. Money wise, go to your bank and open up a checking account and get a debit card (Visa or Mastercard). the debit card will get you cash at atms in france and spain. dont hassle with travelers checks and stuff.
