Unfortunately, if you have poor credit or no credit, it’s going to be difficult to qualify for any credit card, let alone a “good” one. And if you’re able to qualify for an unsecured credit card, you’ll likely be paying high interest rates.
Your best bet is go to your local bank or credit union and find out if you can get a secured credit card. A “secured” card is just like an “unsecured” one, only you put down a security deposit to give assurance to the bank that you will pay your debt. Typically, the security deposit will run you $300-$500 and your credit limit will be no more than the amount of the deposit. This will allow you to charge purchases, as well as build credit, so you can eventually qualify for a secured credit card with a low interest rate.
There are also “partially secured” credit cards that you may qualify for. Ask your bank what your best option is. Good luck!
